SCERT Commences Workshop on ‘ Inclusion and learning disabilities’., Phase-1.
Basing on the workshop organized on 2nd November, 2018 “Mainstreaming children with learning Disabilities in education” at SCERT, Nagaland, Kohima. The Department’s proposal for the mentioned intervention program was approved by the Government and therefore hands on training to the teaching community and parents started. In the first phase of taking up this task three Districts were covered, Kohima, Dimapur and Phek. The others will be covered in second and third phase.
IE & ICT Cell of SCERT Nagaland organized 7 days workshop on ‘inclusion and learning disabilities’ for Dimapur Government teachers:
A week long workshop for inclusion & learning disabilities (four days contact and remaining assignment based) has been undergoing since November Seven with resource persons at STRC Hall, CIHSR (Referral Hospital), Dimapur for special educators and Government teachers under Dimapur district as first phase, being organized by SCERT, Government of Nagaland.
This workshop was initiated through the initiative of the Chief Minister’s Office where on 2nd November 2018 a workshop was held; it was in this workshop that strong recommendation was given to take it to the District Level.
In the inaugural, special guest for the program was Deputy Education Officer, Government of Nagaland, Dimapur, Smti. Amongla. On the first day, she encouraged the participants to take the training seriously and be alert to identify and serve the children among whom some are have problem learning, while the new Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dimapur, Government of Nagaland, Shri Anoop Kinchi, IAS on the second day interacted with the participants and Resource persons.
Various topics are being trained to the trainees under: Special Teacher (Retired), Christian Medical College, Vellore (Chennai), Dr. Y. Simpson and NERIE, Shillong (Meghalaya), Dr.Umesh Kumar Sharma.
Meanwhile, topics on Inclusion, Universal Design for Learning, hands on TLM with simple method of teaching including, dysgraphia (writing), dyslexia (reading), dyscalculia (maths), ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Illness, Hearing and Vision were few topics being trained and explained so as to be useful as one goes back to respective Government schools under Dimapur district among it’s students dealing with such special need students on daily basis.
It can also be noted that the function is the first step in such series to be held at every district or so under Nagaland, initiated by the Government of Nagaland.
In the other hand, Referral Hospital also has multi disciplinary approach team with experts to deal in this particular subject.
Around twenty teachers as trainees under different parts of Dimapur government schools are attending the program. Head of IE and ICT Cell, SCERT, Nagaland, Kohima, Sr. Lecturer/Associate Professor, Shri Daniel Thong Seb is the coordinator on behalf of SCERT, Government of Nagaland with his team, Ms. Ayangla Lemtur, Mrs. Kevisenuo Whuorie and Mr. Kethovilie Sachü from DIETs and SCERT. And next workshop is scheduled in February and March 2020 in Kohima and Phek Districts respectively. Unlike Dimapur District, private schools will also be included in the next workshops.
